Choosing a wine glass is easier than you think. Here are some tips from Maximilian Riedel to simplify the process: 1) Select shapes that correlate to your wine preference. If you find yourself consistently buying Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc, choose these glassware shapes. If you buy glasses based on your favorite wines and varieties, you can’t go wrong. 2) Ask yourself how much you typically spend on a bottle of wine. This is the amount you should invest in a single glass.

Pouring the right amount of wine in your glass will enhance your wine experience. Just because a glass can hold 20 ounces does not mean you should pour 18 into the glass. Overfilling your glass will only deprive you of a wine’s aromatics and possibly result in a spill. For maximum enjoyment pour between 3 – 5 ounces, equating to approximately two fingers held up to the side of the glass. By adhering to this guideline you will ensure there is enough room to swirl without spilling and aerate the wine to release its bouquet. Remember, you can always ask for a refill.
