Riedel Crystal’s Swan Decanter named the 2009 Red Dot Design Award Winner

From a pool of over 11,000 submissions from 61 countries, Riedel Crystal’s graceful Swan Decanter ($395) was selected as the 2009 Red Dot Design Award Winner.  Designed by Georg and Maximilian Riedel, the decanter was inspired by a father-son trip to Venice and captures the movement and elegance of birds in flight.  Wine is decanted into the wider opening (the swan’s “tail”) of this J-shaped piece and then poured from the narrow “neck,” which ensures effortless and spill-free serving with its extended spout.  The Red Dot Design Award, which is presented by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany, is one of the most prestigious design competitions in the world and has been recognizing outstanding design achievement since 1955.
